“Fallen” forms part of a series of works that seek to offer a more responsible purpose to historic works whose values and symbolism no longer represents universal social freedoms.

The repurposed sculptures can now continue to be displayed in public as historic artifacts whose sanctity is no longer upheld and instead are maintained as a public warning to never forget a horrific history that can never be repeated. The sculpture mixes 3D scanning of pre existing historical statues of the Civil War with contemporary digital sculpting and fabrication techniques.

“Fallen” portrays the toppled statue of general Robert E Lee, one of the leading figures of the pro slavery confederacy during the 1861-65 Civil War. Multiple statues of Robert E Lee were vandalized and taken down during public uprisings against a series of symbols of oppression towards social liberties.

The original artwork and bench was designed by artist Sebastian ErraZuriz.
