ai MAZE
2023 Mixed Media. Miami Beach
Dimensions 144 ft x 140 ft.
A monumental, immersive public artwork, AI Maze is the first maze designed not to get us lost, but to help us find ourselves. This public installation, the size of a football field, offers the Art Miami Basel audience a unique creative experience.
An oasis for temporary escape, disconnection, and reconnection with our core values, the public artwork serves as a physical town square for meeting and engaging in important conversations. These interactions are increasingly challenging in today's polarized digital public squares.
In an era marked by intergroup tensions and conflicts, the project draws inspiration from the need to unite in addressing society's looming environmental, social, and technological challenges.
AI Maze invites the public to imagine, understand, and prepare for the societal repercussions of Artificial Intelligence. Errazuriz, who has been obsessed with the subject for the past decade, believes that AI challenges cannot be solved solely through intelligence. Instead, they require a rediscovery of our ideals and the courage to sacrifice to implement them. While designed to be experienced through its sand corridors, AI Maze also includes a secret passageway for exploring its interior along the inside of the maze walls.
Ultimately, AI Maze aims to offer a moment of pause and calm, inviting visitors on a journey through our algorithmic selves.
The AI maze took 3 months to build. 32 trucks to be transported its modules to the beach and a linear total of 11 miles of plywood were used in its construction. All materials will later be donated and reutilized by a non for profit building social projects.
“AI Maze” was made possible thanks to the generous support of Faena Art.
