“Mirror Stage Series (You Again)” is a new series of mirror pieces by artist designer Sebastian ErraZuriz. The piece questions the perpetual relation between reality and its reflection.

The Mirror is placed in an acrylic case that both protects and frames the piece. The box re-defines the space of the mirror and seems to capture every images reflected, turning them into ephemeral pictures.

The archetypal portrait mirror is marked by the hand of the artist. The quick note “You Again” appears as a direct address to the viewer who naturally recognizes his own reflection.

Sebastian ErraZuriz makes the self-recognition conscious and reminds us of the “Mirror Stage” in psychology. Psychiatrists such as Lacan and Wallon have identified the “Mirror Stage” as the moment when a child understands the reflection in the mirror he is looking at is his own. The”Mirror Stage” is also defined as the key stage to understand oneself as a whole, and define the relation between the ego and the body.

As we look at ourselves and read the words “You Again” in our mind, we are both listening to the artist’s voice who placed the inscription, and to ourselves as we voice these words internally. This ambiguity also questions the status of the image created in the mirror. The image is inherently relative to the viewer and therefore the piece becomes an ongoing evanescent ready-made.
