TWIN TOWERS OR DOUBLE TROUBLE

2008

Acrylic paint, found objects, wood and resin

24 x 23 x 6 in (61 x 59,4 x 15,2cm)

A sculpture of two fused Boeing planes was inspired by the old model airplanes that sat on travel agency desktops, as well as by the Second World War fantasy designs, which attempted to create “catamaran” doubled planes as a way of designing more efficient aircraft attacks. The two passenger Boeing planes united in the sculpture reference the two Boeing planes that were used to attack the Twin Towers. The two fused planes also make reference to United Airlines flight 93 which was hijacked during 9/11 and crashed on its way to Washington.

Over the past several years, Sebastian Errazuriz has been creating a series of small exercises in memory of the 9/11 terrorist attack. The result is an odd collection of sculptures, photographs, collages and sketches that capture different thoughts and reflections on the 9/11 tragedy and its consequences.
