2006

A 10-meter magnolia tree was planted in the center of Chile’s National Stadium, where dictator Augusto Pinochet had imprisoned, tortured, and killed thousands of political prisoners in 1973. ErraZuriz self-funded the project, and it took two years to obtain proper permits and gain access to the National Stadium for one week.

After digging a hole and planting the tree, the stadium doors were opened to the public. The stadium was transformed into a park, offering a space to stop, look, and remember. A weighty, cathartic soccer match was played in front of an audience of 20,000 people, and concluded the project after a week of activity.
