La Divina Comedia (The Boat Coffin) was created to allow the user to take a voyage to the next world. It allows the “sailor” to say goodbye to his people on shore, and then go off on his own into deep seas and open skies, in a custom reminiscent of the funeral traditions of Egyptians and Vikings. La Divina Comedia has a functional motor and a plug on its side so the user can let the water sink the boat once he or she is ready to go.

La Divina Comedia is one of ErraZuriz’s personal favorites, and is part of a long series of maquettes and sketches realized over the past decade. He believes that, if given the opportunity to be warned by his doctor that he has a couple of weeks left to live, he would rather cut that time short, say goodbye to his people, and go down under his own terms.
